Abstract: Across the world, more than 500 million people listen to podcasts. Increasingly, researchers are looking to podcasts as a medium to complement traditional modes of scholarly communication. Through podcasts, researchers can share new data and ideas, make information more accessible to students and the public, and connect with practitioners and policymakers. We can also use podcasts in our teaching and assessment. In this roundtable discussion, we will showcase four research-focused podcasts: Black on the Ballot, Busted, Humans of the House, and In/Equality. Participants will share their experiences creating and disseminating podcasts. They will discuss how to tell accessible and engaging stories while maintaining academic rigour. They will share practical strategies for funding, producing and promoting podcasts, highlight the challenges and benefits, and discuss how we can better integrate this powerful medium in our research and teaching.
